Cello Lesson FAQ
What age can my child start cello?
We accept cello students as young as 5–6 years old. Younger beginners use fractional-sized cellos (1/4, 1/2, 3/4) matched to their body size. Our teachers make lessons age-appropriate and fun from the very first day.
Do I need to buy a cello or can we rent one?
Having a cello at home for practice is essential. Many families start with a rental — we can recommend trusted rental programs. Size matters: kids need fractional cellos that grow with them, while teens and adults typically use full-size. We’ll help you find the right fit.
How much do cello lessons cost?
Cello lessons are $40 per week (30-minute private sessions), billed monthly at $160–$200 depending on weeks in the month. There’s a one-time $60 enrollment fee. We also offer an Academy 30 package at $997 for 30 lessons (a savings of over $200).
How quickly will my child see progress?
Most students can play their first simple melody within 4–6 weeks. After every lesson, your teacher sends a detailed note summarizing what was covered. Every 12 lessons, you’ll receive a progress video showing your child’s growth over time.
What is the difference between cello and violin?
The cello is larger and played seated with the instrument resting on the floor, producing a deeper, richer tone. Many find the cello’s playing position more natural and comfortable than violin. The cello reads bass clef while violin reads treble clef. Both are beautiful — we help families choose the best fit.
Do you accept Step-Up Scholarships?
Yes! We are a Step-Up Scholarship direct provider. Your scholarship can cover the enrollment fee and weekly cello lessons — making music education completely free for qualifying families.
What if my child misses a lesson?
Cancel 24 hours in advance to reschedule at no charge. Last-minute? Take the lesson online via Zoom with pro cameras and sound. If the student can’t attend at all, the teacher records a short video recap so they don’t fall behind.
